Santa Claus is a character in Bob Clark's 1983 film, A Christmas Story. He is played by Jeff Gillen. He is mean and inpatient and clearly only there for a paycheck. Not much else is known about him.

History[]

A Christmas Story: Logos/Main Title[]

In the first scene of the film, "Logos/Main Title", a possibly different Santa is seen ringing a bell for a donation.

A Christmas Story: Parading To Santa[]

In the twenty-third scene of the film, "Parading To Santa", Santa appears on a float in the Christmas parade. Soon, Santa is accompanied by his elves (Head Elf and Male Elf) in the mall. Santa is in the mall, asking kids what they want for Christmas. He is quick to ask his elves to toss kids down the slide and to make them scream without even talking to them. Most of this is because his shift ends when the store closes at 9:00 PM, and he has no interest or intention in staying past his scheduled time.

A Christmas Story: Slippery Santa Slide[]

In the twenty-fourth scene of the film, "Slippery Santa Slide", Santa picks up Randy and says: "Ho, ho, ho!". Randy screams so Santa tells his elves to toss him down the slide. Santa intimidatingly asks Ralphie Parker what he wants for Christmas. Ralphie is speechless so Santa says a football would be good. Ralphie unconsciously agrees. Just as he's being tossed down the slide, he snaps out of it, stops himself from sliding down, and shouts that he wants a Red Ryder Carbine-action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle. Santa curtly replies, "You'll shoot your eye out kid!". Ralphie frowns as Santa was his last hope. Santa then wishes Ralphie a Merry Christmas and kicks him down the slide with a final, "Ho ho ho!".

Personality[]

Santa Claus, as portrayed in A Christmas Story is mean and impatient. He doesn't seem to care at all about how the children feel and he just tosses them down the exit slide because he is annoyed with their behavior. He seems to only be there for the paycheck he is likely receiving at the end of his shift.
